A young Asian elephant at Melbourne Zoo unexpectedly marked its fourth birthday—by flattening its cake.
Ongard, the first male calf ever born at the zoo, showed little interest in enjoying the special date-and-banana cake crafted by zookeepers.

Shaped like the number four, the cake was meant to be a fun treat and a centerpiece for his birthday celebration. Instead, Ongard decided to trample it, leaving the dessert in ruins.
Zookeepers had hoped the party would bring the zoo’s elephant herd together and provide enrichment for Ongard, who usually enjoys surprises and treats. However, the birthday boy seemed uninterested in the festivities this time.
While the cake didn’t survive Ongard’s enthusiasm, the zookeepers remain dedicated to creating special moments for their herd, even if the outcome isn’t always what they expect.
