A baby Asian elephant was successfully rescued after being trapped in a water pipeline in Xishuangbanna Thai Autonomous Prefecture, Yunnan province

The rescue operation was carried out under challenging circumstances as the elephant’s family remained close by, posing a risk to the rescuers.

The young elephant was discovered stuck in the narrow aqueduct, unable to escape on its own. Responding swiftly, a team of local authorities and wildlife rescuers coordinated efforts to lift the animal out safely.

The operation required careful planning and precision to avoid distressing the elephant further while ensuring the safety of the rescue team.

Despite the potential danger from the nearby elephant herd, the rescuers managed to free the calf successfully. After the rescue, the baby elephant was transferred to the Asian Elephants Breeding and Rescue Center for treatment and care.

Asian elephants are a protected species in China, with concentrated populations in Yunnan Province. Conservation efforts have intensified in recent years to safeguard their habitats and respond to incidents involving human-elephant interactions.

This rescue highlights the dedication of local authorities and conservation teams in protecting the region’s wildlife. Further updates on the elephant’s recovery are expected from the rescue center in the coming days.
