We were notified by the authorities about the situation and immediately took off to our rescue. Just like an ambulance, Leleruk our head keeper insisted on carrying some milk from our own formula, oral hydration salt and some medicine just to make sure that we are prepared off everything. We do not know what happened to Bule’s mother but we surely know it was not a willing separation.

She was easy to locate and the KWS Vet Matthew was able to safely restrain her without the use of drugs, as she was physically healthy till we got to the sanctuary. We took her in and she’s currently doing well, went through quarantine for some tests and consolation of her lost mother by the keepers. We greatly focused on the emotional trauma through a healing process of pampering, constant presence of the keeper to stem trust, honesty and feeling of acceptance. It took many weeks of dedicated work and loving care from the amazing staff here to recover and the elephants here too joined the effort.

She’s taking the bottle well, while learning the routines and getting to know her family.
The young one can only play with twigs right now, we can’t wait to see her bond with her brothers and sisters and ultimately be introduced to the big herd.
